The European Investment Bank (EIB) has approved 142m ($200m) to Sorek Desalination for the design and construction of a seawater desalination plant using reverse osmosis technology in Sorek, Israel.
The desalination plant will have a production capacity of 150 million cubic metres per year and will enhance the sustainability of Israels water sector.
The plant will blend desalinated water with fresh potable water from the national water carrier system, improving the quality of water while reducing hardness and concentrations of salts, nitrates and boron.
The projects financing is part of the EIBs support programme to improve Israels wastewater treatment and drinking water supplies.
